DCE presents gari processing machines to communities

Amasaman (GA), Aug. 20, GNA - The Ga District Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Nii Aryeetey Attoh on Tuesday called upon Ghanaians to do away with tribalism, backbiting and unhealthy political differences and contribute towards the socio-economic development.

He said the NPP government would not renege on its promises of providing the people with infrastructure like schools, clinics, markets, roads and equipment for small-scale industries in the rural areas. Mr Aryeetey Attoh gave the assurance when he presented two gari processing machine to two cassava farming communities -- Oyarefa and Ayi-Mensah, near Amasaman in the Ga District of the Greater Accra Region.

The two machines, which worth 7.5 million cedis each would assist the women to produce more gari, starch and tapioca for export and home consumption.

He said the government has undertaken a number of development projects in the rural areas by providing the people with electricity, borehole and provision of gari processing machines, adding, "this is the positive change that the NPP government promised the people."

Mr Aryeetey Attoh said the machines are not for free and would be paid for in two years. A loan of 25 million cedis each to the communities would be repaid in one year.

Mr Nortei Yeboah, Presiding Member of the Ga District Assembly and Madam Nardu Laryea, NPP Women Organiser of Ga South, who chaired the function assured the women that the government would not neglect them and urged them to vote massively for the party in the next elections. The two leaders of the group, Madam Grace Nai of Oyarefah and Madam Akosua Djorka of Ayi-Mensah expressed their appreciation to the DCE and promised to support the government's efforts at developing the area by putting the machines to good use.
