DCE tours district

Nkoranza (B/A) Aug. 8 GNA - A total number of 65,000 people have registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Nkoranza district of the Brong-Ahafo Region. Mr. Stephen Opoku-Brobbey, District Manager of the scheme announced this when the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. James Appiah-Awuah and his entourage made a familiarization visit to the St. Theresa's hospital at Nkoranza on Monday to interact with the Doctors Nurses and the Administration of the hospital.

Mr. Opoku-Brobbey disclosed that the scheme started operating on Monday at the St. Theresa's Hospital and was to begin at the other Service Providers and Health Centres the following days as the Community Registers for the various areas were being gathered for the Nurses in-charge.

Twelve Service Providers would operate the scheme in the district and that the Nurses in-charge have been given orientation course on how to carry out with their activities.

The Providers are Nkoranza St. Theresa's Hospital, Nkoranza Health Centre, Dromankese Health Centre, Busunya health Centre, Yefri Health Centre, Donkro-Nkwanta Community Clinic and Akuma Community Clinic.

The others include the Community Clinics located at Kranka, Ayerede, Ahyiayem Bonsu and Nkwabeng.

Mr. Opoku-Brobbey said, the St. Theresa's Hospital at Nkoranza is the main Centre selected for referral cases from the other service providers.

Rev. Fr. George Donkor Tang, Chaplain and Acting Administrator of the Hospital announced that the hospital's name has reached far places in Ghana and even beyond as it advocated for a Health Insurance Scheme for her clients.

Rev. Fr. Tang complained that the Hospital lacks maternity block and therefore, pleaded with the authorities of the District Assembly to offer support to the management of the hospital towards the completion of such project they have already begun for the hospital.

He was grateful that the Nkoranza District Assembly donated 100 bags of cement in support of it when the project took off last year, but for lack of funds it is now at a standstill.

The Acting Administrator also called on the Assembly and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to provide some financial support towards the walling of the hospital for proper and effective security. Mr. James Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive in a response said, the assembly would meet to deliberate on the hospitals need and upon their approval would move in to offer the necessary support to enhance its development.

Mr. Appiah-Awuah disclosed that the assembly has made the necessary negotiations for the provision of a modern mortuary facility for the St. Theresa's Hospital at Nkoranza and expressed the hope that the Government would never turn down their request.

He stressed the need for the administration of the hospital to monitor the operations and management of the insurance scheme so as to address the challenges that might face it and also check any fraudulent deals.

The Presiding member of the Assembly Mr. Adjei Yeboah, the District HIV/AIDS focal person and a Principal Executive Officer of the Assembly Mr. Solomon Obeng-Danquah and the Protocol Officer also a Principal Executive of the Assembly, Mr. Kyere Boateng led the Chief Executive on his familiarization visit.
