Lambussie, UWR, August 25, GNA - Mr. Clement B. Benin, Lambussie/Karni District Chief Executive, has appealed to people in the area to monitor the assembly's development projects to ensure that they were executed timely and on specifications.
He said some consultants who were to ensure that projects were delivered on time and in accordance with specifications, do not visit project sites to supervise contractors hence the high incidence of shoddy work on public projects.
Mr. Benin was addressing members of the assembly at the second ordinary meeting of the third session at Lambussie on Monday.
He said contractors working on the Self help Electrification Project (SHEP) were not on site post and that work done on a KVIP at Billaw and a six unit classroom block at Samoa was poor.
He said contraction work on the Hamile Jubilee Market project had been abandoned for more than two years now and called on assembly members and traditional authorities in the communities to critically monitor the performance of consultants to ensure proper execution of projects in the area.
Mr Benin announced that henceforth, the assembly would rather make good use of its work department and not rely on consultants to ensure effective and efficient monitoring to enhance quality delivery of projects.
He appealed to members of the assembly to pay regular visits to the site of the assembly office complex to see how work was progressing to avoid shoddy work.
Mr. Benin called for the establishment of fire volunteers to help fight fire in the absence of the Ghana National Fire Service offices while vigilante committees were formed in all communities to assist the police to fight crime.
He also called on the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to step up education on the need for people to use legal routes to transact their businesses.
