DFID releases 17 million cedis for rehabilitation of schools

Nkawie (Ash), Jan. 5, GNA - The Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom (UK), has released 17 million cedis for the rehabilitation of four most deprived schools in the Atwima District of Ashanti.

Mr Eddy Obeng Darko, Atwima District Director of Education who announced this, named the beneficiary schools as Akonkye Local authority primary school, Saakrom, Nkontomire and Akuapim Local Authority Primary Schools.

He was speaking at the end of year get-together organised by the Atwima district directorate of education at Nkawie at the weekend. He expressed gratitude to the staff of the district directorate, the district assembly, members of parliament, traditional rulers and teachers in the district for their support, encouragement and assistance towards education delivery in the district.

The Officers and staff of the directorate commended Mr Obeng Darko for his leadership qualities and immense contribution towards education delivery in the district.

Mr Samuel Anane, an Assistant Director of Education in charge of the Inspectorate division, advised the officers and staff not to be complacent about their modest achievements for the year, but work harder to improve upon their successes.

Mr Richard Owusu Agyemang, an assistant director of education in charge of Public Relations and the district's Community Participation Co-ordinator, advised the officers to ensure the success of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme.
