Awutu-Mankessim (C/R), Sept. 22, GNA - Reverend Dr. Kofi Akotuah-Obeng, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) parliamentary aspirant for Awutu/Senya constituency, has called on Ghanaians to ensure peace, unity and stability for national development. He condemned the recent political clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Party (NDC) in Tamale and Gushiegu.
Rev. Dr. Akotuah-Obeng was speaking at a meeting of DFP Awutu/Senya constituency executives, to discuss strategies for ensuring peaceful campaigns in the area for Election 2008, at Awutu-Mankessim on Saturday. He urged Ghanaians not to allow party politics to divide the country, irrespective of their political, ethnic and religious differences.
Rev. Dr. Akotuah-Obeng said the involvement of some ministers of religion in party politics recently, was an indication that God wanted to use His chosen servants to assist in laying solid democratic foundation for the nation.
He appealed to Ghanaians, particularly Christians and Muslims to uphold the tenets of their religions and work towards peaceful elections in December.
Rev. Dr. Akotuah-Obeng appealed to the electorate to elect him as Member of Parliament (MP) to enable him to initiate pragmatic programmes for the training of the youth in vocational and technical skills to enable them to set up their own businesses.
The aspiring MP promised to ensure that parents invested in the education of their children to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development.
Alhaji Umaru Yahuza, DFP Deputy Central Regional Organiser, said the party was committed to peaceful and violent-free elections. He urged party members to propagate peace and intensify their campaigns to win votes for the DFP in December. Alhaji Yahuza charged constituency organizers through out the country to support aspiring parliamentarians and the flag bearer to enable the DFP to wrest power from the ruling NPP.
