The Kampakuya Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani, Regent of Dagbon, has presented large quantities of items worth hundreds of Ghana Cedis to inmates of the Yendi Prison to help them celebrate the New Year.

The items included large quantity of rice, crates of soft drinks, gallons of cooking oil and a ram.

Mr Adam Gariba Mohammed, Registrar of Dagbon Traditional Council, who presented the items on behalf of the regent said the presentation was part of the chief’s social responsibility to help the less privileged in the society.

He said it is sad for the inmates to remain in prison during the festive period hence the need for the regent to help with food for the inmates to feel that they are not excluded in the society and advised them to live responsible lives when they gain freedom.

He advised the inmates to use every opportunity available to acquire various skills including sewing, blacksmith, weaving, carpentry so that when they gain their freedom their relatives could establish their own businesses.

Mr Gariba urged the inmates to live exemplary lives when they gain their freedom so that others would learn from them and abstain from crime.

Mr Gariba also advised prison officers to give good care and training to the inmates to reform them to lives worth emulation after prison.

Mr Frank Okyere, Commanding Officer of the Yendi Prison Service thanked the Regent for the gesture and appealed to other benevolent persons and organisations to emulate the kind gesture.
