Damango (N/R), April 3, GNA - The West Gonja District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ansah Dawuda has commended Yabonwura Tutumba Boresa I, Overlord of Gonjaland for his support to the Ghana Police Service which has led to crime reduction. He has also lauded the efforts of Damongowura Tutumba Jakpa II, (Chief of Damango) for releasing a 16-acre land for the construction of a new District Police Headquarters, which is being built by the District Assembly at the cost of GH¢109,000. The ultramodern edifice which is almost completed consists of male and female cells, store room, armoury, charge office and a general office.
ASP Dawuda was addressing the maiden celebration of the West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) in Damango on Friday. The WASSA was jointly organised by the Bole and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Districts Police Command.
He said although the number of police personnel in the three districts were inadequate they have managed to reduce the crime rate through highway patrol's.
ASP Dawuda appealed to the public to assist the police with information leading to the apprehension of criminals. "I also appeal to stakeholders to assist the three district police command with motorbikes, computers and accessories to enhance effective policing."
ASP Isaac Kojo Forson who represented the Northern Regional Police Command observed that the police administration was currently introducing well established professional methods in fighting crime and urged the personnel to build a good relationship with the public to enhance their operations.
He said the regional command would not renege in improving the fight against crime as well as road safety. Yagbonwura Boresa appealed to the government and the police administration to open two new police stations at Mankaregu and Busubu to provide security for residents.
He assured the police service of the cordial relationship of the traditional rulers with the personnel, saying the recent Damba festival was peacefully as a result of the presence of the police. 3 April 11
