Danish Embassy supports education fund

Apraponso (W/R), Aug. 2, GNA - The Danish Embassy in Accra on Saturday supported government effort to resuscitate education by donating an undisclosed sum towards the establishment of the Nana Ekua Bri II Education Endowment Fund, at Apraponso in the Mpohor Wassa East District. The amount will serves as seed money for a 100 million- cedi fund established by Ms Anna Ekua Saakwa a member of the Copenhagen City Council during her enstoolment as chief of Apraponso under the stool name Nana Ekua Bri II.

Mrs Lone Brown, Consular Assistant at the Embassy on behalf the Ambassador expressed concern about the poor state of school infrastructure, the lack of portable water and electricity as well as the poor road network in the area. She said: "As a mother, I know how important it is to give children the best education possible. At the moment you only have up to primary class four here and then the children will have to travel far to continue their schooling." "This is not convenient, we have to do something about that and we also have to do something about electricity, water and toilets." Nana Bri announced the establishment of the 100 million-cedi

Educational Endowment Fund to assist brilliant but needy children in the community to further their education. She said the Fund would institute an annual award: "The Son Of Apraponso Award" to honour resourceful citizens. Nana Bri who is resident in Denmark also urged Ghanaians living outside the country to use their expertise and contacts to support the country's development programmes.

The Apraponso Tufuhene, Nana Badu, commended the new chief for establishing the endowment fund and urged those who would be appointed to manage it to be sincere in their selection of beneficiaries. The Reverend Brainerd Y. Whitefield of the Bible Standard Church in Accra and Rev. Mike Asare of the Righteousness Gospel Church International at Nsawam, jointly launched the Educational Fund.
