Danyame (B/A), June 11, GNA - The chiefs and people of Danyame, a farming community in the Dormaa Municipality, have held a durbar to raise funds to purchase a generator for the provision of electricity for the community library.

Launching the appeal for funds, the chief of Danyame, Nana Brafo Koforubour said that the community library, which was constructed through self-help in 2008, had been under-utilized due to lack of basic facilities such as electricity and water.

He said while waiting for the assembly to support the community, the people deemed it prudent to acquire a generator. Nana Koforubour appealed to Danyame citizens home and abroad to contribute towards the development of education in the area. He called on children to justify the huge investment being made in their education by government and their parents by learning hard to pass their examinations.

Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, warned the people of Danyame to desist from engaging their children of school going age in child labour.

He explained that Ghana's strive to reduce poverty was on course and it was unjustifiable for any parent to abuse or engage his or her children in child labour because of poverty. Mr. Asamoah said that the assembly would soon come out with bye-laws to deal with parents and guardians who trampled on the rights of their wards and children.

He urged other communities to emulate Danyame for its initiative to help improve education in their areas since "quality education is the biggest legacy you can bequeath to the next generation. Mr. Asamoah said that "It is our shared responsibility to offer a congenial atmosphere to both teachers and students to enable us to realize this dream".
