Communal violence between Krobos and other tribes, mostly Kwahus, in the farming community at Miaso No.1 in the Fanteakwa district of the Eastern region has left one person dead with many others injured.
Several houses have also been burnt down.
At the moment, police have been sent to the area to maintain law and order.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Nana Bamfo Ampadu, the chief of Miaso No. 2, where many of the people have taken refuge, said there has been a long-standing land dispute between one Maame Gyamea, who is supported by the Krobos, and a Major Keelson (rtd), also backed by the Kwahus and other tribes.
He said the Koforidua High Court gave a ruling on January 21 this year in favour of Madam Gyamea.
Nana Ampadu said the Krobos allegedly started harassing and ordering the other tribes to vacate the land since they (Krobos) had won the case.
Maame Gyamea, their leader, was said to have asked the other tribes to remain on the land until a final decision was taken on their fate but the Krobos thought otherwise.
The Krobos allegedly started harvesting both cash and food crops belonging to the Kwahus and other tribes. Livestock was also not spared.
According to the chief, the Krobos intensified their action on June 24, this year, so the other tribes fled to Miaso No. 2 to seek refuge but the Krobos allegedly chased and attacked them.
In the process, one Kwaku Joe, 35, was stabbed to death with many others - including one Paddy - receiving various degrees of injury and had to be taken to the Akim Tafo Government Hospital for treatment.
The Krobos not satisfied, allegedly returned to Miaso No. 1 and started burning down or removing roofing sheets of houses belonging to the Kwahus and other tribes.
They also looted personal effects and cash running into several millions of cedis.
The Akim Tafo police district commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP), Samuel A. Buabeng, confirmed the story and said 21 people were arrested and arraigned before the Koforidua circuit court where they were remanded in police custody for two weeks. They were however released on bail by a Koforidua High Court after spending one week in custody.
He said the police would continue to patrol the town to look for the alleged ringleaders of the attack who have fled.
The Kwahu South district chief executive, Mr. Raymond Osafo Djan, who visited the area appealed to the factions to exercise restraint and allow the authorities to find a lasting solution to the issue.
He promised to contact the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other organisations to assist those who have sought refuge at Miaso No. 2.
Meanwhile, Foli Lartey, the one suspected to have stabbed Kwaku Joe, fled to Kwahu Bepong, but has been arrested and arraigned before a Koforidua magistrate court on a provisional charge of murder.
The court has remanded him in prison custody to re-appear on August 11this year.
