Decomposed body of woman found in cassava farm

Akatsi, June 17, GNA- The decomposed body of a woman identified as Victoria Vifa, 35, has been found in a cassava farm at Anyieme a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region.

Vifa, a citizen of Yaluvi near Akatsi and a mother of one, was said to have left the village about three weeks ago for the market at Akatsi but failed to return. A source close to the police at Akatsi told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that elders of Anyieme on June 9, informed the police about the discovery of Vifa's decomposing body. The source said all parts of the decomposed body were intact with no traces to suggest a foul play.

It said Vifa's body had since been released for burial and that the post-mortem examination conducted on it at the Police Hospital in Accra could not establish the cause of death, a situation the source said the Pathologist attributed to the state of decomposition. Mr Frank Awu, Superintendent of Police in charge of the Akatsi District, confirmed the incident but did not make any further comments. Mr Afatsawu Agbavu, a relative of the late Vifa, said she the deceased left Yaluvi in the morning some time in late May this year for the market at Akatsi in the company of a lady friend from the same village. Mr Agbavu said Vifa's friend in the evening, informed her (Vifa's) mother that the deceased said she was going to Akuave (her father's village) in the district for five days, but she was not found there. Meanwhile the family of the deceased has appealed to the police to conduct thorough investigations into the conduct of operators of a corn mill near the spot where the decomposed body was found.
