Demonitization is not to enrich NPP -MCE

MCE REMOVES MYTH SURROUNDING DEMONETIZATION EXERCISE ; DENOUNCED ASSERTION THAT IT IS TO ENRICH NPP COFFERS

After a careful study of the nation’s currency, the ruling NPP government in collaboration with her assisted economic bodies realized the need to do something about it in order to save the citizenry from carrying countless number of notes for their business transactions, hence the re-denomination exercise.

Since the initiative was officially made known to the populace there has been series of campaign by the government and a counter one from sets who claim the decision is unnecessary and need not to be welcomed by Ghanaians. In view of that core members of the ruling party and other persons who play an instrumental role in the local government concept have taken it upon themselves to explain the merits of the exercise to the people.

It was therefore not astonishing at all when the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Techiman, Hon. Prince Yaw Donyina as part of his familiarization tour in some selected communities in Amangoase-Nkrankrom electoral area refuted growing assertion that the re-denomination exercise forms part of the government cunning means to fill NPP coffers. He expressed deep regret over that allegation, adding that there is no iota of truth in it. The MCE observed that politicization of national issues would not help the nation and called on people propagating that falsehood to desist from that. Hon. Donyina who was addressing a reasonable number of persons at Tanoanafo reiterated that time has come for opposition parties in Ghana reason with the ruling government when it comes to issues of national interest.

An opinion leader in the town, Mr. J.K Aheng appealed to the Nation Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Information Service Department (ISD) to extend campaign about the re-denomination exercise to the remotest parts of the country to cease the activities of propagandists. He said even though there has been series of adverts on radio and T V stations that alone is not enough.

The MCE charged on the two NDC MPS in Techiman north and south constituencies to eschew taking credit on government sponsored projects. According to him, last year alone the government spent up ¢20b on road networks in the commercial capital and added that, this year too it is likely that more amount would be spent. He continued that 102 boreholes were also dug for needy communities at the cost of over ¢7.140b.

Hon Yaw Donyina announced that some communities in the municipality would soon be connected to the national grib. He explained that in view of that energy consultants are in the beneficiary areas to conduct mapping exercise ahead of the electrification project, which will take off in due course. He mentioned Adutwie, Ampemkrom, Anyinabrem, Bonya, Bowohomoden, Faman and Kuntunuso as beneficiary towns. The rest are Fiaso, Tadieso, Nkrankrom and Nyansiaka. He later urged people in Techiman Municipality not to hesitate to join the National Health Insurance scheme (NHIS). This is because it is one of the reliable tools to improve health care delivery in the country for the benefit of all particularly the vulnerable. He revealed that in 2006 the government released ¢9.7b for Techiman Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (TMMHIS).

Messrs Muniru Tanko and Agyenim Boateng, NPP youth organizer and youth organizer for Techiman south constituency respective inculcated into the people the need to shun the propaganda ploy of the opposition NDC and retain NPP come 2008. Among the places toured, include Nkranrkom, Amangoase, Bowohomoden, and Manpong. All the visited communities appealed to the MCE to help solve the perennial water problem in the various towns. The assembly member, Hon. Ben Asante who led the entourage entreated the electorates to appreciate the good works of the government.

In an interaction with the press, the chief of Nkrankrom Charles Adoquay advocated for the construction of teachers accommodation. He noted that following the town’s inability to provide descent accommodation most teachers posted to the area all the time refuse to honour it. One common thing that cropped up during the over five-hour tour was the traditional leaders call for the reshaping of dilapidated education structures and construction of school blocks in their respective towns.
