The GHC400,000 block funded with district development fund is expected to serve the school's needs
Deputy Eastern regional Minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey together with the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Samuel Kwame Agyekum have commissioned three projects in the district.
The educational facilities, a school canteen and a teachers’ bungalow constructed by the Volta River Authority Resettlement Funded in collaboration with the Asuogyaman district assembly and a classroom block built with the district development fund, are expected to augment teaching and learning activities in the beneficiary schools.
The team first commissioned a canteen for the New Senchi R/C Junior High School. The Ghc 130,000 Volta River Authority Resettlement Funded facility will provide a conducive eating environment for the students who hitherto ate under trees on the campus.
The facility fitted with nets and rain gutters, comes with an office for the cooking staff, a storeroom, a kitchen, a dining room, tables and chairs, etc. Dasaasehene and Kamranefahene of Dasaase, Nana Baffour Darkwa welcomed the kind gesture provided by the VRA Resettlement Fund and the local assembly for the school and the Senchi community by extension.
He however appealed for more allocation to the school feeding program to ensure that that the pupils are well-fed in the facility. Headmaster of the New Senchi R/C Junior High School, thanked the VRA and the DCE for the facility and trusted that the facility will improve the hygienic conditions of the students as eating under trees as was the case exposed them to various health hazards.
He was confident that the enclosed eating place will minimize pupils’ risk of contracting diseases and on behalf of the school promised to maintain the canteen to serve its purpose for a very long time.
At Mpakadan, the deputy minister commissioned a six-unit teachers’ bungalow for the Mpakadan Presby Primary school to serve the accommodation needs of local teachers. Each unit of the total of Ghc 260,000 project comes with a room, toilet and bath facilities, a hall, a kitchen and a porch.
Honourable Samuel nuertey ayertey and Samuel Kwame agyekum also commissioned a six-unit classroom block and a head teacher’s office for the Sedom D/A primary school.
The Ghc 400,000 block funded with the district development fund is expected to serve the growing need for educational facilities in the school and the community in general.
Commissioning the projects on behalf of the Honourable Eastern regional minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, deputy regional minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey congratulated the VRA for the canteen and teachers’ bungalow which he observed will go a long way in augmenting teaching and learning in the schools.
The honourable deputy minister was also full of praise for the District Chief Executive for the Asuogyaman district for collaborating with the VRA to put up the facilities and for maintaining peace and ensuring development in the area. He however cautioned the schools to preserve the facilities by maintaining them well to ensure that they serve the purposes for their construction, which is to benefit the pupils and their teachers.
Mr. Samuel Nuettey Ayertey who said government will increase the allocation of the school feeding program to the schools urged the school’s authorities to ensure that quality pupils are produced to feed government’s free Senior High School policy.
He charged the Asuogyaman district to ensure that the youth take advantage of the construction of the 97.3 kilometres Single Standard Gauge Railway Line from Tema to Mpakadan through the Asuogyaman district, to ensure that they benefit by taking advantage of the direct labour offered by the project.
On his part, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Samuel Kwame Agyekum noted that the purpose of the gathering underscored the important role education plays in government decisions.
The assembly chief who expressed his appreciation to the management of the VRA resettlement fund was relieved that the canteen and other facilities will offer a hygienic eating environment and provide conducive teaching and learning activities while supplementing the efforts of government.
He however charged the authorities of the various schools to adopt a good maintenance culture of the facilities to serve future generations. Executive director of the VRA resettlement fund, Mr. Twum Barimah assured the various communities of the VRA resettlement fund’s committed and continued support for them. He said the fund is always ready to heed the call of the community to assist them in various ways.
He presented two sets of jerseys and two footballs to the New Senchi R/C Junior High School in fulfilment of a promise he made to them, adding that the items would facilitate physical education in the school.
