Paramount Chief of Aburi Traditional Area, Otubour Gyan Kwasi II has expressed worry about the rate at which people are developing properties on the Aburi mountain.

He says it is a looming disaster that needs urgent attention by the city authorities.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that those lands are family lands and not stool lands.

"So I do not have authority or jurisdiction over those lands and how they are sold to private developers," he explained.

The continuous development of the area poses danger not only to residents but road users who ply the Ayi Mensah stretch to the Aburi mountains.

"The mountain is not as rocky as it is expected. Its soil composition is light sand and not strong enough to contain structures," he said.

He added that city Engineers should caution private developers who have decided to build on the Aburi mountain because it will create serious problems for citizens in the near future.

In barely two weeks, two rockfall incidents have occurred, leading to a temporary closure of the Accra bound section of the Aburi – Ayi Mensah road.

The latest rockfall was just last Sunday.
