Director commends school for placing first in BECE

Esaase (Ash), July 24, GNA - Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education has commended Christian School for Orphans and Needy Basic School at Esaase for placing first in the 2004 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in both Atwima-Nwabiagya and Mponua districts.

He was happy that the school had not only excelled in academic excellence but also in discipline.

Mr Obeng-Darko said these at the inauguration of the first batch of 115 orphans and needy pupils enrolled in the school at Esaase near Akropong on Friday.

He said the school was second in the 2003 BECE and deserved praises for it had brought a lot of glory to the District and carved a good name for itself.

Mr Obeng-Darko urged parents to motivate their children, especially girls, by providing them with their basic needs. This he said would encourage them to learn hard and sustain them in school longer.

Mr Thomas Ofori Donkor, District Chief Executive, in an address read for him, advised parents to patronise community schools. He commended Mr Kwabena Boateng, proprietor of the school for the good works he was doing to help needy children in the area and also thanked the chiefs for giving land for the development of the school. Mrs Nana Yaa Akyiaa Prempeh, Director for Volunteer Ghana Project Division of the Prime Resorts and Tours Promotion, said it was time parents took a second look at the education of their children who were their future assets.

She said it was better for parents to invest the little they had in the education of their children so that they would become useful citizens.

Her organisation, which had sent a female volunteer to assist in the teaching of French in the school, presented 10 bags of cement, a pair of double gas burners, two gas cylinders and mosquito nets to the school.

Mr Boateng said the orphans would not pay school fees and appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the supply of teaching and learning materials. 24 July 05
