Disaster Management Committees in Ashanti region to be revamped

Pokukrom (Ash), Nov. 18, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has initiated a programme to re-organise the Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) at the regional and district levels.

Mr Daniel Asuo-Afram, Acting Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO who announced this at Pokukrom in the Ahafo-Ano South District on Thursday, said the programme was to strengthen the committees to ensure efficient and effective delivery.

Mr Asuo-Afram is on a one-week inspection tour of NADMO projects and farms of Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGs) in the 23 districts of the region.

He said in addition to re-organising the DMCs, NADMO would ensure that the district offices were properly staffed with personnel to cope up with their operations.

Mr Asuo-Afram observed that staffing the institutions without the requisite training and equipment was useless, therefore, the Organisation had already explored avenues to train the staff to be abreast with modern trends in disaster management. Mr Johnson Adu, Ahafo-Ano South District Co-ordinator of NADMO appealed to the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Organisation to assist the DVGs with cutlasses, Wellington boots and other farming inputs to facilitate their work.

He said even though they had some equipment they were not adequate to facilitate their farming activities. 18 Nov.05
