Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has directed all Districts Assemblies in the region to reactivate all statutory committees and sub committees of the Assemblies to enhance public participation in the decentralization programme.

He urged the Assemblies to draw programmes to project their activities, and to reactivate their Public Relations and Complaints Committee, to receive petitions from the public, and to resolve misunderstandings and conflicts in their districts.

The Regional Minister gave the directive at his maiden meeting with the Municipal and District Co-ordinating Directors of all the Assemblies in the Region in Koforidua.

He said, reports reaching his office indicated that some of the District Co-ordinating Directors had not been staying in their districts and municipalities, and which tend to affect the supervision and effective monitoring of their staff.

The Regional Minister, therefore, urged those involved to change or face sanctions.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako regretted that many Municipal and District Assemblies continued to commit the same financial offences that the Auditor-General had been complaining about over the years, and had refused to abide by the recommendations of the Auditor-General in his reports on the Assemblies.

He, therefore, directed the Municipal and District Assemblies to submit their Audit Report Implementation Reports to his office for scrutiny, before submitting them to the Office of the President.

The Regional Minister commended the Municipal and District Co-ordinating Directors for their support to their Municipal and District Chief Executives during the difficulties witnessed in the country this year, and urged them to continue to cooperate with their Chief Executives to offer collective leadership to their districts, in order to help achieve the vision of the President.
