District Assemblies urged to monitor progress of projects

Kokofu (Ash), April 20, GNA- The Omanhene of Kokofu Traditional Area, Barima Offe-Kwasi Okogyeasuo II, has suggested the need for the District Assemblies to monitor the progress of project they award on contract to prevent unnecessary delays and ensure quality of work. This he said would also ensure that money did not go down the drain.

Barima Offe-Kwasi was contributing to a People's Assembly at Kokofu on Tuesday.

He called on the Police Administration to transfer personnel in the area who were found to have compromised professional standards. Barima Offe-Kwasi alleged that some police personnel had turned a blind eye on indiscipline and the peddling and use of narcotic drugs. The Omanhene said through self-help the people have given the local Police Station a face-lift and expected the personnel to prove equal to the task of maintaining law and order.

Poor infrastructure at the Oppong Memorial Secondary School, academic performance of students, environmental sanitation, provision of electricity and water were the main issues raised by various speakers at the assembly.

Mr Richard Aboagye, District Chief Executive, said registered members of the National Health Insurance Scheme, who have paid their premium and issued with Identity Cards would enjoy free medical care from June this year.

The take off of the scheme, he noted, would be a landmark achievement for the government, as it would replace the discredited "cash and carry system" that had over the years deprived many, especially the rural poor, access to quality health care.
