Daboase (W/R), Oct 6, GNA - The Mpohor Wassa East District Assembly has spent 360 million cedis to establish an Oil Palm nursery at Daboase to supply seedlings on credit to prospective growers in the district. Mr. Edward Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive (DCE), announced this at the second ordinary meeting of the third session of the Assembly at Daboase on Wednesday.
He said the Assembly had already procured 100,000 pre and main nursery polythene bags, 50,000 seed nuts, irrigation equipment and employed 35 workers for the project.
The DCE said a committee had been set up to design a planning scheme for Daboase, Mpohor, Atieku and Atobiase in phases and asked the Daboase Plot Allocation Committee to suspend its work until the scheme was completed.
Mr. Amprofi told the Assembly that discussions were going on with the management of WEXFORD Mining Company to develop a planning scheme for Akyempim to ensure the orderly development of the township. He told the assembly that Life Church International of the United States of America (USA) would soon establish a Vocational Institute in the community.
Mr. Anthony E. Amoah, MP for the area said the high level of poverty in the district required, "The adoption of the basic needs approach", to help the people to have access to education, health care and transportation and to ensure food security. He stressed the need for the Assembly to increase its internally generated funds (IGF), contract loans from the banks and other financial institutions to facilitate the development of the area and to encourage the youth to make education their priority.
