Jasikan, Dec. 12, GNA-Mr. Solomon Donkor, Jasikan District Chief Executive has directed that, with effect from next year Fridays would be set aside for communal labour in the district to revive sanitation practices that kept away preventable diseases.

Addressing a gathering at Apesokubi and Tapa-Abotoase at separate ceremonies to inaugurate the Area Councils and Unit Committees of the two traditional areas, Mr Donkor noted that with their coming into office, the grassroots administration has come to put their destinies "in their hands".

He said it was important for the unit committee to work together with Assembly members and the Area Council which serves as the local parliament where matters concerning the welfare of their people are discussed, adding that in everything they do they should put the communities in the picture to avoid opposition. Mr. Donkor stated that it was the duty of the members sworn into office to check all ills in the society and have them corrected as well as helping the assemblies to increase its revenue-generating base by collecting all tolls and basic rates.

He observed that Area Councils and Unit Committees were set up by a Legislative Instrument and called on all to support their work.

He noted that their work would deepen the decentralization process and bring government to the doorstep of the people. Mr. Donkor urged members of the Council and Committee to live above reproach and to have the welfare of the community at heart to win the respect and cooperation of the people.
