District gets development facilities

Asonomaso-Nkwanta (Ash), June 16, GNA - A lorry park, toll booth and incinerator constructed at Asonomaso-Nkwanta in the Kwabre district of Ashanti at the cost of 470 million cedis were on Thursday inaugurated.

The Kwabre District Assembly funded the projects from its share of the common fund.

Alhaji Ahmed Kwasi Yeboah, the District Chief Executive, inaugurating the projects, said the government was committed to the development of the country and that a number of on-going development projects scattered all over the country have attested to this fact. He noted that the provision of classroom blocks, laboratories, resource centres and others coupled with the introduction of capitation grants and feeding system in basic schools by the government have demonstrated the commitment of the government to promote education. Alhaji Yeboah announced that the government has selected Aduman Secondary School to be upgraded as a model school in the district and hoped that a number of infrastructure facilities would be provided for the school to enhance teaching and learning.

He disclosed that the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment has earmarked several million cedis for the Youth Employment Programme for the district and hoped the amount when released to the assembly would help the youth to undertake viable income-generating ventures to improve their living conditions. The DCE appealed to the people to honour their tax obligations to help improve the revenue base of the assembly to support its commitment of providing their needs. Alhaji Yeboah used the opportunity to remind them of the importance of the government's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and urged them to pay their premiums to enable them to receive the needed health care. He hoped the construction of the lorry park, toll booth and the incinerator would help in the collection of tolls for the assembly and also improve the sanitation situation of the people. The DCE advised the community to take proper care of the projects to ensure their longer span.

Nana Kyei Baffour, Odikro of Asonomaso-Nkwanta, commended the assembly for providing them with such projects and hoped they would improve their living conditions.

He appealed to the assembly to assist the community in the provision of a three-classroom block for the town's primary school to facilitate teaching and learning.
