Osae-Krodua (C/R), Dec. 7, GNA - Towns and villages in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District whose names had already been earmarked for connection to the National Electricity grid early next year, were on Friday assured that there is no cause for alarm as far as the programme was concerned.

Captain Steve Kwamena Armah (Rtd), District Chief Executive for the area, gave the assurance at the 19th Farmers Day anniversary at Osae-Krodua to honour 17 hard working farmers in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.

He also assured farmers at Osae-Krodua that all is set for the government to fulfill the promise given them by the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mohama, recently about the installation of gari processing equipment at the village.

According to Capt. Armah, both the machine and funds for its installation have been made available to the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District assembly, adding that, they would soon be sent to them.

He announced that Osae-Krodua is among communities in the district listed for the provision of power before the end of the second quarter of the year of 2004. Capt Armah commended farmers and fishermen in the district for their continued devotion and commitment to national goals and aspirations and pledged continued government's full backing to make them happy.

Mrs Hanna Tetteh-Kpodar, Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya, praised the government for maintaining the National Farmers' Day event, and also establishing the Ayensu Industrial Cassava Starch Factory at Bawjiase, which falls in her constituency and advised young farmers in the area to embrace it.

On politics, Mrs Tetteh-Kpodar cautioned Ghanaians not to allow next year's electioneering campaigns to destroy the nation's hard-won excellent international record chalked by the nation within the past 20 years.

According to Mrs Tetteh-Kpodar, the country would be affected badly should Ghanaians permit such unpardonable and unproductive situation to happen in the country.

She wondered: "why on earth people fighting to achieve a common goal of peace, unity and progress should allow political differences disintegrate them, and eventually plunge their own once unified state into war."

Mrs Tetteh-Kpodar counselled the citizenry, irrespective of their political affiliations to seriously ponder over problems confronting the nation and think about how they could contribute towards solving them than to indulge in issues, which retards her progress.

Mr James Kweku Mensah, a past district best farmer, advised farmers in the district to adhere strictly to the guidelines from extension officers of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to ensure good results.

Mr Mensah also charged farmers in the area to form credit unions on zonal basis to reduce their financial hardships.

According to Mr Mensah, they can even use funds from such credit unions to diversify and expand their farming projects if they are effectively developed and maintained.

Mr Asante Deiku, 26-year-old graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), won the district best farmer award and was given a number of prizes, including a bicycle, wax print, cutlasses and Wellington boots.

He expressed his appreciation to the government to the honour done him and other 16 farmers who were also given various awards for their good works.

On behalf of the management of Awutu-Adawukwa based Vocational Training School, Mr J.K. Bakah, Director of the School, presented a special award to Mr Deiku for his good works.

Mr. Bakah said the management of the School regards Mr. Deiku as a role model on whom future products of the school could draw greater lessons and inspirations from, hence the decision to honour him in addition to the one presented him by the State.
