Mr Kwaku Gyambrah, the Solicitor for the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs (BARHCs), has urged divisional and other sub-chiefs to support their Paramount Chiefs to promote peace and development in the traditional areas.
Mr. Gyambrah made the call when he addressed over 70 traditional rulers selected from the Nkoranza Traditional Area, at a day’s workshop on Tuesday at Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
It was organised by the BARHCs and sponsored by Jastar Motors Investment Company, a Financing Trading Company in the Region on the theme: “The Role of Traditional Leaders in the Prevention of Chieftaincy Conflicts in the Region”.
Mr Gyambrah emphasized the need for chiefs and queen-mothers, as role models in their communities, to avoid scandalous lifestyles, since that had the tendency to tarnish not only their individual images, but that of the noble chieftaincy institution.
He expressed concern about the refusal by some sub-chiefs in the region to pay allegiance to their Paramount Chiefs, but were rather paying homage to other paramountcies, saying the situation had been observed as one of the factors causing conflicts and disputes in such traditional areas.
Mr Gyambrah therefore advised the participants not only to be law-abiding, but unite as a pedestal to galvanize support from their subjects for unity, peace, understanding and progress in their communities.
Mr. Hagan Sarpong, Assistant Registrar at the Regional House of Chiefs, announced about 54 chieftaincy cases were pending before the Judicial Committee of the House, lamenting that the conflicts were adversely affecting the development of those communities.
Mr. Sarpong therefore advised kingmakers to always eschew personal interest and appoint qualified and rightful persons for installation as chiefs and queen-mothers, to maintain peace in the society
In an address read for him, Mr. Charles Asum, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jastar Motors Investment Company and also Director of the Nkoranza-based Jerryson FM Radio Station, gave the assurance that the Company would not relent in its efforts in supporting development activities in the Nkoranza Municipality and the Region as a whole.
Topics treated at the workshop included “Rules Governing the Enstoolment and Destoolment of Chiefs and Queen Mothers”, ‘Categories, Responsibilities and Limitations of Chiefs and Queens’, “Alternative Dispute Resolution as a tool for Conflict Resolution” and “The Legal Framework of the Chieftaincy Institution”.
