Divorced husband commits suicide

Gomoa Akwakrom (C/R), Feb. 13, GNA- Opanyin Kojo Andam, a-65-year-old farmer from Gomoa Akwakrom near Apam in the Central Region, whose wife was forced to divorce him by her family against his wish, was on Monday found dead after committing suicide at the outskirt of the town.

According to the Police, Opanyin Andam and his wife madam Adjoa Amoadu, 50, have been married over the past 35 years without any child, and as a result, he had been assaulting the women anytime he takes in alcohol, without any provocation. The police said the family of the woman was not happy about the treatment being meted out to her and has been threatening to initiate a divorce, until February 5 this year when they finally separated them and the woman left for her hometown. According to the police after the separation, Opanyin Andam got angry and started threatening members of the woman's family in the town with death.

The police said on February 7, Opanyin Andam suspected to be under the influence of alcohol was seen firing indiscriminately in the town, but fortunately no one got shot. Sensing danger after the shooting spree, Opanyin Andam fled into the bush and five days' later his decomposed body was found near a refuse dump at the outskirt of the town with gunshot wounds on the throat and his single barrel gun beside him, the police said. Meanwhile the body has since been buried under the instruction of a medical Officer due to its bad state making it impossible to be sent to the hospital for autopsy. Police investigations continue.
