Amasaman (GA), Jan. 10, GNA - The people of Djanman near Amasaman in the Ga West District led by their Town Development Committee are constructing an 18-seater water closet public toilet at a cost of 151.6 million cedis.
Conducting the Ghana News Agency round the project site on Monday, Mr. Daniel Dodoo Amoo, Chairman of the Djanman Town Development Committee said the project was to replace an existing ten-year old 14-seater Mozambique type of KVIP, which had completely collapsed.
Mr. Amoo said the absence of an adequate public place of convenience in the town had resulted in indiscriminate defecation in bushes and along the Nsakye River, which is the main source of water for domestic use.
He said if urgent measures were not taken by putting up the facility there would be an outbreak of water-borne disease in the town. Mr. Amoo said the people of Djanman were supporting the project with communal labour with some monetary assistance from Djanman Noyaaku, a non-governmental organisation.
Nii Amo Djan I, Chief of Djanman, who offered the land for the project commended the people for their communal spirit and called on the Ga West District Assembly and non-governmental organisations to come to their aid to complete the project.
