Obuasi, 0ct 06, GNA - A pastor has appealed to the public to stop branding ex-convicts as useless in the society. Evangelist Peter Oduro Twumasi of the Church of Christ at Obuasi-Boete said, "The prison is not a place where those who go there should be ruled out as useless in the society". He was speaking at a ceremony at which the Church presented two bundles of mosquito nets and three-in-one sound system to the Obuasi Prisons.
Evangelist Twumasi urged the public not to neglect prisoners but should do everything possible to meet their health and other social needs. He said the prison should be seen as a place for reformation and "we have to assist prisoners so that they come out as reformed persons who are beneficial to the nation".
Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Emmanuel Boadi Anane, the Deputy Commander at the prison who received the items, expressed gratitude to the Church for the donation. "The items have come at a good time which will help in the promotion of good health for the inmates, especially the nets for the prevention of malaria", he said.
