Adenta (G/A), March 1, GNA - Mr Alban Bagbin, the Minster of Water Resources, Works and Housing, has paid a working visit to the Adenta Municipality to acquaint himself with the water situation in the area. The visit took him to the SSNIT Flats, Housing Down, Ashaley Botwe, Aprotec, Ogbojo Market and Adjirigano.

Briefing the media on the visit, Mr Bagbin expressed concern about the negative impression being created about the water situation in the area. "We all know for sometime now the water situation in this area has improved but the impression is always created that not much has been done t= o salvage the situation," he said.

He urged all to desist from politicizing the water issue in the area an= d called on all to come on board in finding solution to the challenge. "Water is life and we should not at any point in time play politics with it," Mr Bagbin said. He said the government had constructed 11 boreholes across the municipality as well as enacted a rationing programme to ensure equal acces= s to water among the inhabitants. At Aprotec, the inhabitants complained about the lack of water, compelling them to buy water at high cost. "Here, we receive water once every two weeks and this has resulted i= n most of us buying water at between GHC10 and GHC15 a tank" said Vida Karikari, a resident, said.

At the Ogbojo Market, the traders were full of gratitude to the assembly for constructing a bore hole that had guaranteed them constant water supply.

At the SNNIT Flats, GNA observed that while some flats constantly received their potion of the rationing, which is once every two weeks, othe= r flats had not received theirs for the past three months. At the Adenta Community School, the assembly had constructed a borehol= e that sometimes serves the community as well.

It was found at Adjirigano that some people had illegally tapped pipe borne water for commercial purposes. Mr Bagbin called for destruction of the illegal connections as well as the storage tanks and urged the Assembly to clamp down on people who engage= d in such illegalities.
