Offuman(B/A), May 15, GNA - Mr George Nti, National Facilitator of the Land Administration Project has stressed the need for people to document all land transactions through customary land secretariats. He said this would ensure the security of tenure of their properties and serve as a link between the land owning community and the public sector land legacies. Mr Nti was speaking at separate sensitization forums at Fiaso, Twimia-Koase, Nkwanta and Hansua, with various religious bodies in the Techiman Municipality.
Organised by the Techiman Customary Land Management Committee, it was to serve as a link between the land owning community and stakeholders, as well as the local management committee. Mr Nti explained that customary land secretariats were established by local land owning communities with support from the government to improve land management and administration. He disclosed that the government was assisting the secretariats under the Land Administration Project (LAP) through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to keep and maintain accurate and up to date records of land dealings in the locality.
Nana Owusu Gyare II, Akwamuhene of Techiman Traditional Area and Chairman of the Customary Land Management Committee of the Traditional Council advised people in the municipality to register all land transactions and documents at the land secretariat. He observed that the benefits would facilitate awareness of land rights and responsibility among the vulnerable such as women, very poor landless families and tenants among others. 15 May 09
