Don't attend public functions in party paraphernalia - Quainoo-Arthur

Krofu (C/R), Aug. 27, GNA - Supporters of political parties have been cautioned against attending public functions in their party's paraphernalia.

Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who gave the caution at a durbar to climax the celebration of the annual Akwanbo festival of the people of Krofu near Mankessim held that using party attire to such functions could be a recipe for creating disorder.

"Limit party paraphernalia to functions being organised by your parties," Mr Quainoo-Arthur stressed when he spotted both New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in their party colours at the durbar.

The MCE commended Nana Okraban Kwansah II, the Chief of the town for acknowledging what the NPP government had achieved for the town in his welcoming address, sayng these included boreholes, places of convenience (KVIPs) and rehabilitation of roads. He pointed out that barring chiefs from active politics did not mean they could not show appreciation of the good works of a government. Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Minister of Information and National Orientation said the government had acquired 1,000 acres of land between Saltpond, Afrangua and Kormantse for the establishment of an oil refinery.

Mr. Asamoah-Boateng, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West said he had made education his priority and for that reason was instituting education endowment fund to be called "ASABEE Education Fund", to promote teaching and learning of ICT and Petrol-Chemical Engineering to produce manpower for the drilling of oil at the Saltpond and the Cape Three Points Rigs.

He said the defunct Saltpond Ceramics would be reactivated to create job opportunities for the youth. 27 Aug. 08
