Apam (C/R), Aug 20, GNA - The Gomoa West District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Emmanuel Tennyson Mensah, has appealed to politicians not to destroy the moral values of the youth in their quest for power.
Mr Mensah, who was speaking to a group of party activists at Apam, deplored the behaviour of members and supporters of some political parties who recruited minors to register during the limited voters' registration exercise.
"By so doing the politicians are teaching the young ones how to cheat and tell lies. We need to train future leaders who can be trusted but not those who will cheat or tell lies," Mr Mensah said.
He appealed to those who know they had not attained the voting age of 18 years but were compelled to register to confess to any official of the NCCE, if they were afraid to go to the electoral officer, for their names to be purged in order to produce a credible voters' register. Mr Mensah commended Mr Stephen Bertino, District Electoral Officer, and his team for the able manner they conducted the exercise.
He said their swift and prompt attention nipped in the bud some occurrences that could have degenerated into confusion.
Mr Mensah said there were many problems because the Electoral Commission did not involve the NCCE in the education as it had been the case in the previous ones.
He said the NCCE played a role in the cedi redenomination exercise and contributed to the success of the exercise.
