Don't lord your positions over the people - DCEs told

Fomena (Ash), Sept. 2, GNA - The Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have been urged to guard against lording their positions over the people.

The Right Reverend Samuel Agyei-Mensah, the former Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, who gave the advice, said, "You were not called to lord over the people, but to serve them".

He was speaking at a special thanksgiving and commendation service organised by the Methodist Church in honour of Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw for being the first District Chief Executive for the newly created Adansi North District at Fomena.

The Rt. Rev Agyei-Mensah pointed out that, it was a privilege to be appointed as a DCE but that position carried a lot of responsibilities, stressing, "It is a great responsibility, which you must execute with the strength of God".

The former Bishop encouraged the DCE to work to ensure peace in the new district, since no development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancour, instability and chaos.

He expressed the hope that, the DCE will work with dedication and patriotism to improve the living standards of the people.

Mr Ameyaw expressed concern about the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the Adansi State, emphasizing, "It is a pity that, as a result of these disputes, the installation of divisional chiefs has stalled". The DCE said Adansi State needed a lot of social amenities like good roads and good drinking water and promised to work harder to improve the current state of development in the new district. He, however, noted that the development of the district was a collective task, stressing, "Adansi State has the resources to develop its area and so I am appealing to all citizens to come on board". The DCE pledged to serve the people so as not to disgrace the President for nominating him and the assembly for its approval. Nana Kyei Baffour II, Gyasehene of Fomena, warned against certain utterances from some people, who were not in favour of the appointment of the DCE and said, it was important "we all come together to develop the district".

The Gyasehene called on NPP executives in the district not to rush to the DCE for favours, but they should rather offer the needed support, guidance and direction to enable the DCE to perform.
