Dormaa Ahenkro, July 4, GNA - The Ghana AIDS Commission has provided 125 million cedis to 11 community-based organizations (CBOS) in the Dormaa District for the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the area. The CBOs include Asunsu Development Club, Yot Club, Saint Francis De Sales Catholic Men's Fellowship, Kofi Badukrom Sub-Zonal AIDS campaign club and the Nkrankwanta Development Club. Mr Emmanuel Duku, Dormaa District Chief Executive, said this at a one-day anti-AIDS campaign organized by the Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the Customs Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) Welfare Association and Ghana Social Marketing Foundation (GSMF) at Dormaa Ahenkro. The programme was aimed at educating the people about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the need for them to avoid casual sex. Mr Duku appealed to the CBOs and other organizations in the district to step up their education campaigns to check the spread of the disease. Mrs Rebecca Onyane, Senior Public Health Nurse, said about 80 per cent of people infected with HIV got it through sexual contact.
