Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Jan. 12, GNA - The Dormaa Vocational Training Centre at Dormaa-Ahenkro, has registered 50 persons for training in vocational skills, under the second-phase of the Skills Training and Employment Placement (STEP) programme this year.
Mr Asamoah Tortoe, Manager for the Centre, who gave the hint in an interview with GNA, at Dormaa-Ahenkro at the weekend, said beneficiaries would be assisted to acquire knowledge and skills in masonry, carpentry and electrical works.
He, however, expressed disappointment that since the six-month programme commenced in November last year in the area, only nine of the enrolled persons had so far reported.
Mr Tortoe, therefore, advised those who failed to turn up to take advantage of the exercise to acquire employable skills.
He said government would supply equipment, pay for the administrative cost and give allowances to trainees to enable them to complete their courses.
Mr Tortoe said the successful ones would be awarded the National Vocational Training Institute's Proficiency Certificate. Miss Dora Wotorchi-Gordon, Headmistress of Dormaa Presbyterian Girls' Vocational Institute at Dormaa-Ahenkro, also told the GNA that the outfit had registered 50 persons for the STEP scheme.
She said they would undertake training in soap making, food processing, hairdressing and textiles.
Miss Wotorchi-Gordon appealed to the youth to participate in the programme so that they could acquire technical skills required for national development.
