Devego (V/R), April 13, GNA - A scheme to distribute potable water to dozens of communities in the Ketu-North District under the small community water project has started with the sod cutting at Devego and Xipe. Eight other nearby communities, Xantroli, Kpakpavikope, Fenukukope, Avevluime, Amuzukope, Nathankope, Agbedzikope and Kudzorkope are also to benefit from the 400,000 Ghana cedis project which would give water to an estimated 15,000 people. The project being handled by Lestako Ventures, an Accra based Water Development Company involves the mechanization of a borehole at Xipe as the source, laying of 9,000 transmission lines and the construction of overhead tanks.

Similar projects are slated for Tadzewu and other communities as soon as funds are released by the Ministry Water Resources, Works and Housing.

Mr Lawson Kofi, Ketu-North District Chief Executive, said this when he handed over project documents to the contractors at Devego, to mark commencement of work.

He said the Assembly had an elaborate plan to change the poor water supply situation in the district. Mr Kofi said his outfit and the Akatsi District Assembly had jointly applied to the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing for the connection of their districts to the Bi-Water Company system from Dabala in the South-Tongu District. He said the Wheta Area where boreholes were not sustainable due to the salinity of the underground water was expected to be connected to the Bi-Water line.

Mr Kofi, who followed up with the inauguration of a 61,000 Ghana cedis four-bedroom nurses' quarters at Tadzewu said that was the second such facility to be done by his outfit after Wheta. He said five clinics and one maternity ward were also put up at Dekpor, Ehie and Penyi.

Mr James Avedzi, the Member of Parliament for the area, appealed to the people to desist from wrangling and rather unite and cooperate with the Assembly to develop the area.
