Dredging of the Akora River at Agona, is progressing steadily, to enable the project to be completed on schedule.

Mr Ernest Yankah, Project Manager of the Las Adventuras, a Construction Company engaged in the construction, made this known when he conducted newsmen round to inspect work on the project at Agona Swedru.

He said the project has been delayed due to the disaster which struck the company when the metal bailey bridge on the river collapsed after a dynamite blast.

Mr Yankah said the consultant of the project has requested for a fresh extension of period from the Ministry of Water, Works and Housing, and hoped that it will be granted.

He said the project was going to be beneficial to the citizens of Agona Swedru and the surrounding towns and villages.

Mr Yankah called on Media Houses within the Agona Swedru Municipality to educate the residents about the benefits of the project.

He said when the project is completed, flooding will be a thing of the past, adding that it will also help to reclaim the existing land on the bank of the River.

The project Manager assured the residents that no building would be pulled down during the execution of the project.

Mr Yankah said the company has employed over 50 local people, and will decide on the corporate social responsibilities for the people before the completion of the project.

The Project Manager hinted that the President, John Dramani Mahama would pay a working visit to the Central Region to inspect progress of work on the project on Thursday, February 27.
