Drivers request for 60 percent lorry fare

Drivers in Fanteakwa District have appealed to the government to increase the current 40 percent lorry fare to 60 percent to enable them stay in business.

Making the appeal at a meeting at Begoro on Sunday, the drivers complained that the 40 percent approved fare would render most of them out of business, since they hardly made any reasonable sales to their car owners since the petrol price increase.

The Begoro branch Chairman of the GPRTU, Mr Alex Kwabena Amoama, urged the GPRTU Co-ordinating Council to come out with a reasonable approved fare that would favour both drivers and the public.

Mr Amoama said that the 40 percent lorry fare currently in the system never favour drivers in the area, due to bad roads in the district.

He called on the authorities to help arrest the bad image of drivers following petrol price increases.
