Begoro, Dec 24, GNA - Drivers plying the Begoro-Bosuso road have appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) to as a matter of urgency remove all unauthorized road ramps at Adjeikrom in the Fanteakwa District to prevent road accidents.

The Fanteakwa District branch Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the TUC, Mr Alex Kwabena Amoama, complained to the Ghana News Agency that the illegal erection of road ramps at Adjeikrom, just at the foot of the Begoro-Bosuso steep hill was inconveniencing drivers and could result in lorry accidents.

He explained that due to the steep topography, drivers were compelled to ascend the hill with high speed but the ramps impeded the free movement of vehicles and those descending could crash the ramps and somersault in the event of the slightest break failure or mechanical fault.

Mr Amoama said some heavy-duty vehicles found it difficult to ascend the hill due to the presence of the ramps, and expressed worry that appeals to the Fanteakwa District Assembly to have the removed fell on death ears.

He called on the Road Safety Committee to ensure the removal of unauthorized road ramps in the country as part of its road safety campaign to avoid road accidents.
