Drivers worry about numerous ramps on Bontrase-Obrachire road

Awutu Bontrase (C/R) July 21 GNA-Members of the Awutu Bontrase-Obrachire branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) have appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority and chiefs of towns whose inhabitants have constructed ramps on the Bontrase-Obrachire to remove them to avoid accident.

Making the appeal at an emergency meeting with the Assemblyman for the area, Mr. Daniel Asomani, at Awutu Bontrase on Wednesday, the drivers claimed that the inhabitants of Obrechirewa, Obrayeko, Mfofo, Kwame Kwei, Akrabeng and Kojoashong have built three huge ramps in their towns. They drivers claimed that the ramps were damaging their vehicles, adding that it was lawful for the inhabitants to have erected them.

According to Mr. Kweku Otabil, branch chairman of the Union, the inhabitants explained that the ramps had been built to enable drivers to slow-down when they reach the towns to avoid further killing of people crossing the road.

He said members of the Union were not responsible for the two incidents where two pedestrians were knocked down in recent times. Mr. Asomani told the drivers to meet with chiefs and elders of the affected communities for amicable resolution of the matter for peace to prevail in the area.

Meanwhile Mr. Asomani has appealed to the Metro Mass bus to extend its operation to the area during the celebration of the Awubia festival of the chiefs and people of the area, which starts sometime next month.

According to him during the occasion transportation become difficult because of the influx of people to the area for festival. He said a bus could ply between Awutu Beraku through Obrachire to Agona Swedru or Awutu Bawjiase to alleviate transportation problems that some time occurred during the celebration of the festival.
