Acute drug shortage has hit the Boamang government health centre at Afigya Kwabre in the Ashanti region.

The development, according management of the facility, is creating problems for the community dwellers who rely on the facility for healthcare.

Speaking in an interview with Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice, a physician assistant at the health Centre Hamidu Salam disclosed that since last year June, government has failed to pay their health insurance claims.

“The last time they paid was last year May. So from June last year up till date, we haven’t received anything. So we find it difficult to operate.

When you go to the pharmacy area, we go to the regional medical stores to procure our drugs; the money is not there and so we owe them. If you go there, the drugs that you have requested for, you might not get all of them because of our debt,” he said.

Mr. Salam added that the shortage of drugs at the facility continues to create confusion between staff of the health centre and subscribers of national health insurance scheme who depend on the health Centre for medical treatment.
