Duase (Ash), Oct. 30, GNA- A 350-million-cedi market was on Wednesday inaugurated at Duase in the Asante-Akim North district by Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Deputy Minister of Information. It was constructed under the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP) and has sheds and stores.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng, who was in the district as part of a week's official tour of the Ashanti region, told the people to take advantage of the facility and expand their economic activities.

He assured them that a 10.5-kilometre road linking the area with Konongo would be put into good condition by the government.

The road has become a major disincentive to farming and other economic activities in the area as the people go through a lot of difficulty transporting goods because of its bad conditions. Drivers plying it are reported to be charging unreasonably high fares.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng said government was determined to ensure marked improvement of the road network in the rural communities to boost economic production in those areas.

He said the government was making efforts to create right conditions for teachers to accept postings to deprived areas. The Deputy Minister advised parents to pay serious attention to the education of their children. "This is the only way you could guarantee a better future for them," he added.

Mr John Agyekum-Mensah, the assembly member, said the people through self-help have moulded several thousands of blocks towards the construction of a police station and additional nurses quarters for the medical staff working at the community's health centre.
