Dutch NGO supports disables at Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A), Oct. 28, GNA - Lillian Funds, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Holland, had offered scholarship to a 21-year-old physically disabled woman at Nkoranza, Miss Rita Adomako-Nketia to acquire skills in dressmaking to improve upon her lifestyles.

After completing her J.S.S. education, Lillian Funds sponsored Miss Adomako-Nketia to acquire the skills in Wenchi at the Our Lady of Fatima Business and Vocational Institute for three years. Mr Richard Awumbura, Nkoranza District Education Peripatetic Officer told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Friday that, the NGO has also provided an amount of 2.8 million cedis towards the construction of a kiosk as a workshop for Miss Adomako-Nketia. Mr Awumbura appreciated the efforts of Lillian Funds in assisting a number of needy children in the district to over come some of the problems that they face in life. He said the NGO has recently also provided an artificial eye for a J.S.S. pupil at Akumsa-Domase, Miss Florence Owusuaa and also supported her with a sun- shade to protect her eyes. The Peripatetic Officer announced his plans to establish an association of parents with disabled children in order that they could fight for their welfare and rehabilitation.

He announced that, he was seeking for other support and assistance from Lillian Funds towards the surgical operation of three physically disabled children at the Orthopaedic Centre at the Nsawam General Hospital.

Mr Awumbura paid special tribute to Mr Hippolite Irenmno, a Medical Assistant at the Nkoranza St. Theresa's Catholic Hospital, who is also the local contract person for Lillian Funds for his concern for the disables in the district.

Meanwhile, Miss Rita Adomako-Nketia has commended Lillian Funds for their support and attention to enable her acquire the necessary skills that has made her self employed to care for herself. She said had it not been for the NGO, she would have found life uneasy as her parents would have found it tough in shouldering all the responsibilities towards her education and training.
