Dutch team in Sunyani for partnership

Abesim (B/A), Mar. 10, GNA - The chiefs and people of Abesim, near Sunyani in Brong-Ahafo on Wednesday held a grand durbar for a four-member delegation from Amsterdam, Holland.

The delegation led Mrs. Elvira Sweet, Mayor of Amsterdam South East is on a three-day visit to the Sunyani municipality to advance a sister city relationship programme.

Other members of the delegation were Mr Ab den Held, Manager, Socio-economic Renewal, City Council, Amsterdam, Mr Eddy Adusei and Mr Isaac Acheampong are both Ghanaians.

Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Acting Municipal Chief Executive noted that the resources of the government and the Assembly could not cater for the development of the municipality.

He said it was on this score that the Assembly thought it expedient to stretch out to Amsterdam South East for assistance. The MCE said the Dutch delegation had proved beyond all doubts that "people in Amsterdam have the interests of blacks at heart" and called for assistance to advance education, health and culture.

Mayor Sweet said the delegation was in Sunyani to know more about Ghanaian culture and to explore how best the city of Amsterdam could help the Sunyani Municipal Assembly in its developmental programmes. She expressed satisfaction with the warm hospitality accorded the team since their arrival in Sunyani on March 8, adding, the about 19,000 Ghanaians living in Surinam, her hometown, were law-abiding. "We are in Sunyani to explore possible ways for good partnership with your Municipal Assembly, especially in health and education, while we also learn about your culture".

Nana Kumi Acheaw, Omanhene of Abesim, expressed his people's appreciation for the visit to the town and appealed to Mrs. Sweet and her team for assistance to complete a library project. The Municipal Assembly and the chiefs and people of Abesim presented members of the delegation with gifts.

The team had earlier in the day paid a courtesy call on Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri 11, Sunyanihene and Nana Yaa Nyamaah, Queenmother.
