EU earmarks 25 million Euros for sixth Micro Projects Programme

Kusa (Ash), June 21, GNA - The European Union (EU) has earmarked a total of 25 million Euros for the construction of a number of development projects in the country under the sixth European Union/Government of Ghana Micro Projects programme to be started next month.

Dr Kwaku Osafo, the National Project Manager of Micro-Projects Programme, who announced this at Kusa in the Adansi North District on Monday said a total of 1,950 projects were executed under the fifth programme which ended this month. He was speaking at the joint commissioning of 14 micro projects completed in the former Adansi West District which included the Kusa Junior Secondary School block, teachers quarters at Jimiso Kakraba, Binsera and Mamiriwa, 40-unit market stalls at Kunka and 16 and 20

seaters vault chamber toilets at eight communities. Dr Osafo said the Ashanti Region alone had so far benefited from 750 projects since the programme started in the 1990 with the Adansi West having 53 of the projects. "The Adansi West was one of the best performing districts in the Ashanti Region", he said and commended the Acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive for the role he played to ensure the completion of the 14 carried out under the fifth programme.

The National Project Manager said the programme had given attention to education that was the reason why 750 of the 1,950 projects were educational facilities. Dr Osafo therefore, urged the Kusa community to pay attention to the education of the children and also motivate the teachers to enable them to give off their best.

Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the Acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive announced that a total of one point four billion cedis was spent on the 14 projects with Kusa JSS block costing 152,547,237 cedis. He expressed his gratitude to the beneficiary communities and the district micro projects officials for their commitment that ensured the successful completion of the projects.

Mr. Boampong appealed to the programme management to consider the Obuasi Municipal, Adansi South and Adansi North under its Limited Intervention Project since the Ashanti Region would not be part of the sixth micro projects programme. The Assembly member for Kusa, Mr Joseph K. Banning, appealed to the Adansi North District Assembly and the EU for the construction of a computer library to be attached to the new JSS block. Nana Kwae Pinaan II, Kusahene who presided appealed to the Obuasi Municipal Directorate of Education to supply the new school with furniture to enhance teaching and learning.
