Salaga (N/R), Oct. 29, GNA - The District Chief Executive (DCE) for East Gonja, Mr. Alhassan Mumuni, has pledged to run an efficient administration with improvement in the quality of education, sanitation, job creation, good roads and accessible health care. He said his administration had started sponsoring about 40 teacher trainees this year and had recruited about 300 pupil teachers through the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to augment the low teacher ratio in the district adding that, "such programmes would continue in the succeeding years".

Mr. Mumuni was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Salaga on his developmental plans for the area. The DCE, who has been in office for six months, said he had approved the provision of six-unit classroom-blocks with offices for three different locations to give decent accommodation to the pupils. He said he was going to be impartial in dealing with the people and without any political discrimination and expressed the hope that everyone would feel part of the government.

Mr. Mumuni said people would be given credits lines through the poverty alleviation fund to go into businesses to improve their economic fortunes.

"I have created much awareness about peace and unity of purpose with the Chiefs and people and have brought much success and cordiality to the area," he stressed.

The DCE said the district has a brighter future of developing because most of the roads in the area would soon be constructed through an ongoing high level consultation with development partners towards the improvement of the road networks.

He, however, lamented about the low revenue generation which may draw some of the development plans back.
