Koforidua, Sept. 14, GNA - The Eastern Regional celebration of this year's farmers' day has been shifted from December 3 to the 10th. This had become necessary in view of the fact that the region would be hosting the National event on December 3 at Somanya. This year's celebration in on the theme "Grow more food". This came to light at a joint meeting with Regional and National planning committee members of the Farmers day, in Koforidua on Tuesday. The National chairman of the planning committee, Nii Amasa Namoale who is also the Deputy Minister for agriculture, Mr Babal Jamal, Deputy Regional Minister and Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the Regional Minister attended the meeting.
The meeting was to synchronize the activities of the Regional and National planning committees to ensure a successful celebration and to make proposals for budget and programmes slated for the ceremony. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, who is also the chairman of the regional planning committee, indicated that, for adequate preparations towards the national celebration, all district celebrations in the region would also be scheduled for December 10.
He proposed that in addition to the Volta River Authority (VRA), where the award winners over the years were sent on excursion, they should this time round be sent to the Volta River Estate Limited (VREL) and the Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) all situated in the region. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo assured the planning committee that the region was ready and would do everything to make the farmers day celebration one of the best organized ceremonies so far in its 26 years of institution. Nii Namoale on his part proposed to the regional planning committee to launch a regional version of the National farmers' day even though it had been launched already to whip up public interest in the region. He also urged the planning committee to solicit support for the celebration from institutions and well- endowed establishments in the region to augment the national budget.
