The Eastern regional Police PRO ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah has revealed that lands in the region are fertile for the cultivation of Indian hemp, popularly known as ‘wee’.

According to him, that explains why there is a regular bust of syndicates engaging in the growth and sale of the illegal herb in the region.

Over the last few weeks, several syndicates including foreigners have been arrested in the Eastern region with large quantities of ‘wee’.

The latest arrest was on March 2, where over 64 sacks of the illicit herb was impounded by the regional police command.

Speaking to StarrFMonline.com Saturday, ASP Nketia-Yeboah said even though it is an established fact that the land in the area is arable for the growth of wee, the cultivation of the herb is frowned upon by the laws of the land.

“The fact is that the lands in the region are fertile for the cultivation of wee. And that is the truth. But it must be established that the fact that the area is fertile for the growth of the herb doesn’t mean that people should go into that business, because the Police will not allow them. The laws of our land does not permit it and the Police will continue to go after them,” he stated.
