Economic Tourism House

Buoyem (B/A) July 10, GNA - Work on a 40 million-cedi eco-tourism guesthouse at Buoyem in Techiman District has begun. Ghana Association for the Conservation of Nature (GACON) in collaboration with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) of Netherlands, is funding the project, which consists of 10-bed rooms, a hall, a library, an information hall, a kitchen, a toilet and bath facilities,

The community is supporting the project with communal labour. Cutting the sod for work to begin, Mr Kofi Asamoah Abanaba, Assembly Member for Krobo and Chairman of Agriculture and Environmental Sub-Committee of Techiman District Assembly, noted that the guesthouse would help promote tourism in the district. Mr Abanaba charged the committee to work tirelessly towards the early completion of the project and to make judicious use of the fund provided for it.

Mr. Abanaba asked the people to provide labour and other resources to help complete the project on schedule. He commended the donors for assisting the communities to promote tourism in the area and assured them of the Assembly's readiness to support the eco-tourism project.

Nana Owusu Brempong, Oyokohene of Buoyem and Chairman of the Eco-Tourism centre in the area appealed to both resident and non-resident citizens to contribute towards the realization and establishment of the tourist centre.

He expressed the hope that the centre would help to opened up the area for investment to help create employment for the youth. Nana Okomafour Dwamena Akenten, Buoyemhene, also appealed to the District Assembly to support them with building materials to enable them to complete the project on schedule.

The Assembly Member for the area, Mr Everson Ado-Donkor, told the Ghana News Agency that they had a month to complete the project and warned that anybody who failed to attend communal labour towards the project would be made to face the full rigours of the law.
