Economics Students told to make use of ICT courses

Kumasi, March 30, GNA - Economics Students

have been advised to continually avail themselves of

Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) courses

to brighten their chances on the job market. Mr Bright Addai, Relationship Manager of Databank

Financial Services Limited, said taking up leadership,

management and entrepreneurship courses via ICT had

become necessary as employers were becoming more

interested in graduates who were self-motivated, ICT

competent, innovative and problem-solvers. He was addressing the Economics Students'

Association (ESA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of

Science and Technology (KNUST) at a seminar in Kumasi. It was on the theme: 93Facing the Challenges of

Human Capital in the 21st Century- the Role of the Economics

Students". It formed part of activities marking the fourth week

celebration of the Association which among others aimed at

exposing the students to the demands, challenges and

prospects on the job market and the prospects. Mr Addai noted that economics students should not

confine themselves only to their courses of study, stressing

that they should adopt multi-disciplinary approach to acquiring

knowledge to meet the standards required by employers. This, he said, was crucial to achieve corporate

mission and vision for increase in productivity. Mr Richard Ofori Boateng, President of the

Association, stated that the theme was selected to help address

the high incidence of graduate unemployment in the country. He said it was the conviction of the Association that

by resourcing them adequately the students would be better

placed to research and come out with more viable solutions to

the nation's economic challenges. Mr Boateng advised members of the association to be

abreast of its new constitution to create the needed awareness

about what was expected of them. Mr Boateng indicated that unity was the pre-requisite

to achieving the objectives of any institution and for that matter

it behooves the members to foster good social harmony with

one another for their own progress.
