Omanhene of Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Conduah, has commended President of Groupe Nduom (GN), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, for his tremendous contributions towards the development of Edinaman.

The Omanhene pointed out that it was out of the ordinary the way Dr. Nduom was committed and dedicated to the development of his native town, adding that Ghana would have been a better place if “we had many of him in the country.”

Nana Conduah said this during the launching of this year’s Edina Bakatue festival at his palace at Elmina last Tuesday.

He observed that Dr. Nduom was single-handedly helping to boost the local economy of Elmina with the establishing major companies in the area which has helped reduced poverty in the area by offering employment to thousands of youth in the area.

“We have many wealthy Ghanaians who have all decided to concentrate their businesses in Accra because of the bright prospect they know the capital city will bring to bear on their businesses but Nduom has set the pace and is doing it differently by concentrating on his hometown, Elmina, where he has most of his major companies,” he stated.

“The Coconut Grove Hotels, GN Bank, FreshPak, GN Printing, GN Electronics, Quarry, Farms and the Nduom University among others are just a few of the companies he has brought here which has now placed Edinaman on the map,” he added.

For this reason, he pledged the unflinching support of the chiefs to Dr. Nduom to enable him raise the banner of Edinaman high, and admonished the people in the area to do same since he is one of a kind.

Nana Conduah commended Dr. Nduom for his continuous support to the traditional council annually during the celebration of Bakatue, and called on natives of the area to emulate his gesture.

The Omanhene charged the people to keep their environment clean and practice good sanitary practices to keep the area clean since Elmina was a tourist centre.

Touching on the theme; “Let promote and patronise made-in-Ghana goods,” he explained that the traditional council chose the theme this year because of the negative effects importation of virtually everything the country uses was having on the local currency-cedi- as well as the economy.

He disclosed that they were re-echoing the theme which they used in 2014 this year because of the significant gains the traditional council have recognised will bring to the country if the message goes down well with the people.

General Manager of Coconut Grove Beach Resort, Elmina, Mr. Victor Opoku-Mintah, who represented Dr. Nduom, who was the special guest of honour at the launch, explained that apart from Dr. Nduom being a native of the area, he was also grateful for the tremendous support the people have given him in making him a successful entrepreneur, hence his decision to invest in the local economy as a way of giving back to the society that has made him who he is.

Mr. Opoku-Mintahm, who was accompanied by leading staff members of GN, donated GHC50,000 to the Traditional Council to support them in the upcoming Bakatue festival which comes off first Tuesday in July.
