Education Director advises students to be honest

Ms. Georgina Enyan, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Education, has challenged students to avoid engaging in examination malpractices to attain academic success.

She stressed that “honesty protects our integrity, makes us dignified personalities and gives us respect and love” and entreated students to exhibit that to parents, teachers, elders, peers and the community as a whole.

Ms. Enyan was speaking at the 20th anniversary celebration and first speech and prize giving day of Koase Senior High and Technical School at Koase, near Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region, at the weekend.

She reiterated the need for students to inculcate and practice the habit of honesty, to resist and withstand pressures from corrupt people, speak the truth and to be sincere in all their dealings.

“The development of any nation depends on the level of honesty exhibited by the citizenry and it is incumbent on all of us to practice it now to accelerate national progress”, she added.

The Deputy Regional Director advised the students to work hard and avoid laziness, premature sex, indulging in illicit drugs and indiscipline to enable them to excel in their academic work.

She advised students to take advantage of the limited infrastructure in their institutions, since “you are fortunate to have computers and other modern gadgets to aid in your formal education.

“During our days, some of us got formal education through the hard way. We had no gleaming uniforms, walked barefooted and had no access to the modern gadgets that you have now”, Ms Enyan recounted.

She urged the students to make their parents proud, since some of the parents had no formal education but was trying “through thick and thin” to keep them in school.

“It behooves on you to work hard to compensate them for their efforts in your education”, the Deputy Regional Director added.**
